Biography

Ashok Mishra joined the W. P. Carey School of Business as a professor of agribusiness in 2015.

Mishras research interests lie in food policy and focuses on the economic performance of global agribusiness as a result of production efficiency, mergers and acquisitions, and volatile commodity prices. He has also studied farmland valuation, in particular how various business issues can impact agricultural land values, farm profitability, and ultimately the cost of producing and marketing food. His most recent work focuses on factors affecting food security in developing nations. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, published in Agriculture, Ecosystems and Environment, Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics, and the Journal of Agricultural and Applied Economics, among others.

Before joining W. P. Carey, Mishra was the Donald E. Welge Endowed Professor at Louisiana State University. He received his bachelors degree in agriculture and agricultural economics from the G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, his masters degree in economics from the University of Aberdeen, and his PhD in economics from North Carolina State University.

Mishra previously spent a decade as an economist for the Economic Research Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He has been commended for his research in agriculture, being named a fellow by the Northeastern Association of Agricultural Resource Economists in 2013.
