The history of business at ASU dates back to our days as a teaching school.
1916
Department of Commerce established — unofficial start of the W. P. Carey School.
1926
First Homecoming game and parade! The Class of 1923 marched down Mill Avenue to celebrate.
1955
Arizona State College at Tempe established the College of Business Administration (COBA) — official start of the W. P. Carey School.
1958
Created by vote of the people, Arizona State University finally became a university in name and fact.
1972
Dedicated alumni association created for and by Sun Devil business graduates — the first of its kind to be formed at an ASU college.
1977
Alumni Hall of Fame established to honor business graduates for outstanding contributions to their professions, the community, and the school.
1985
Economic Club of Phoenix (ECP) launched to give business, government, and labor leaders a platform to network, learn, and discuss economic issues.
1995
Executive MBA students received university email accounts — another ASU first.
2003
Our benefactor Wm. Polk Carey and the W. P. Carey Foundation endowed the W. P. Carey School of Business with a $50 million gift — the second-largest single donation to any business school at the time.
2007
Hispanic Business Alumni chapter celebrated 25 years of giving.
2013
First issue of W. P. Carey magazine hit doorsteps.
2017
Melvin Montenegro (BS Finance/Computer Information Systems ’17) became the 100,000th W. P. Carey School graduate.
2019
With a second gift by the W. P. Carey Foundation, your degree and association with the W. P. Carey School became even more credible and valuable.
2021
W. P. Carey Career Management and Employer Engagement launched a virtual career platform with curated opportunities for students, employers, and alumni.
