A new certificate program aims to equip K-12 educators with the skills to teach personal finance. The W. P. Carey School of Business is partnering with Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF), a non-profit organization with the mission of improving the financial lives of the next generation of Americans by providing more than 80,000 educators with engaging curriculum and professional development opportunities, to create a personal finance certificate program for K-12 teachers on financial literacy.
We’re talking about increasing from 25% of high school students taking a personal finance course to close to 50% over the next three to four years. We’re going to require an additional core of educators who are both qualified and confident to teach these courses. We see this partnership with ASU providing teachers with that content knowledge. This is an area that’s both critical and challenging to teach, and by partnering with ASU, teachers can gain additional content knowledge and confidence in investing. It’s incredibly important.

W. P. Carey teamed up with Chemonics to provide their global workforce with continued education at a prestigious university in a flexible, low-cost format. Together, we created a MiniMasters in Global Supply Chain Management, an online accredited graduate certificate that links to the W. P. Carey School’s master’s degree in supply chain management — now offered at ASU’s West campus, in addition to online.
We also created a MiniMaster’s in Leadership and Management, a three-course program tailored to the unique needs of this large international aid development organization, operating in over 90 countries around the world. Delivered asynchronously online, the programs’ courses focus on leading change, project leadership, and designing/leading teams. The courses, which have been specifically designed and are taught by W. P. Carey faculty, include guest lectures from a range of faculty members, expert contributors, reflections, and panels from our partner’s leadership team to provide program participants broad perspectives on management and leaders.
Participants hail from diverse backgrounds across the U.S. and around the world. The leadership and management program is offered as a non-credit professional credential with the option to convert coursework for credit into designated ASU graduate programs.
W. P. Carey is proud to play a role in Starbucks’ innovative partnership at ASU, including the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, the ASU-Starbucks Center for the Future, Starbucks Global Academy, and other innovative business solutions, including corporate business programs.
One such collaboration is a noncredit-bearing, professional development workshop delivered remotely via Zoom that focuses on strategic decision framing. The program is delivered through programming that blends concepts from strategy and data analytics, to more rapidly and inclusively arrive at decisions of impact and value for our corporate partner.
To meet its growing demand for business analysts, Cognizant Consulting partnered with ASU and the W. P. Carey School of Business to offer the Cognizant Digital Business Analyst Certificate Program, a train-to-hire program. The curriculum focused on specific skills needed to succeed at Cognizant, and ensured the opportunity to secure an interview for graduates. 90% of students who completed the program in Spring 2019 received an offer to join Cognizant as business analysts.
ASU and Salt River Project (SRP) have worked together for more than 40 years to tackle issues facing the Phoenix metropolitan area, the state of Arizona, and the Southwest region. “As ASU and SRP are both on paths for significant transition, it is vital we establish common goals, identify transferable insights and develop shared solutions,” said CEO of SRP Mike Hummel. Workforce development is a key focus for both organizations, as two of the largest employers in Arizona.
W. P. Carey worked with SRP to develop a credit-bearing, three-course program focusing on MBA foundation curriculum (Financial Accounting, Organizational Behavior, and Sources of Competitive Advantage) that can be taken as a standalone program and can be leveraged as a pathway to a full MBA degree. The program is delivered as a hybrid modality where classes take place synchronously in a remote environment through Zoom, supported by an online course shell. Learn about custom MBA programs.
W. P. Carey developed a professional credential in business analytics delivered asynchronously online to a Fortune 100 company in the financial and insurance industry with development underway to integrate the program with additional experiential/on-the-job learning opportunities by the employer partner. The program is offered as a non-credit professional credential with the option to convert coursework for credit into the W. P. Carey Master of Science in Information Systems Management (MS-ISM) or the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MS-BA).
