Experiential opportunities

The Department of Finance supports undergraduate students interested in connecting classroom education to real-world practice. Our experiential offerings include hands-on practicums, projects, internships, and more to help you explore interests and pursue excellence in a specific area within finance and related fields. These experiences hone your interpersonal skills and develop technical toolsets, laying a foundation directly applicable to your future career.

Specialized programs

We’ve developed unique curricula to assist students in exploring their interests with immersive experiences and opportunities to form valuable connections with industry professionals. These programs involve an application process.

Investment Banking Industry Scholars

Freshman and rising sophomore finance students can prepare for competitive careers on Wall Street by applying for the Investment Banking Industry Scholars (IBIS) program. Prepare for an investment banking career with early exposure to organizational structures and complex transactions involving underwriting and valuation, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), proprietary trading, and more.

Investment Funds and Practicums

Junior or senior finance students have the unique opportunity to manage a real investment portfolio in a team environment with the Student Investment Management Fund (SIM Fund). Running the full academic year, this program provides a disciplined, quantitative approach to developing and executing a chosen portfolio strategy. You'll present fund performance and decision-making rationale to a board of investment professionals in a culminating experience.

Receive hands-on real estate investment experience with the Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) Portfolio Practicum. Taking a fundamental approach, you'll manage an investment portfolio representing a devoted real estate component of a balanced investment portfolio for a full academic year.

Finance the future by participating in the Venture Capital Investing Practicum. In this two-semester course, you’ll gain experience developing an investment thesis, identifying promising companies, and deploying capital, gaining valuable exposure to the due diligence process in early-stage investing.

ASU-Intel Honors Collaborative Thesis Program

The ASU-Intel honors thesis program pairs selected junior and senior honors students with Intel employees in a real-world work environment over a full academic year. You'll work on projects directly related to Intel's business needs and complete a culminating thesis defense presentation.

Real estate mentorship

The W. P. Carey School of Business and Arizona Association of REALTORS® (AAR) established a mentorship program for juniors and seniors studying real estate. You'll be matched with successful real estate practitioners in the Valley and attend classes about residential real estate sales and professional development skills.
