Life at W. P. Carey

In the classroom

Your learning unfolds in the state-of-the-art McCord Hall, which features innovative team rooms as well as student lounges where you can take a break. Full-time MBA classes meet Monday – Thursday mornings, with afternoons reserved for team meetings, career coaching from the W. P. Carey Career Services Center, and working with student organizations.

Outside the classroom

The ASU campus is close to all the action in metro Phoenix — culture, sports, shopping, and entertainment. With 300 days of sunshine a year, Phoenix is just a few hours from world-class skiing, the Grand Canyon, and more.

Orientation

Full-time MBA students participate in several days of orientation where you will build your understanding of yourself and your experiences, expand your leadership skills, appreciate the experiences of others, and of course, build relationships with the unique group of individuals in your class.

Program operations

Focus on your studies while we focus on the student experience. Our dedicated team will help you with the resources you need to be successful in the classroom through academic advising, course enrollment, and navigating the policy and process of being a student. We also work closely with you and your peers to host events and opportunities to keep you connected and engaged throughout.

Community connections in the W. P. Carey MBA

Full-time MBA students share unique perspectives and bring a combination of cultures, ideas, backgrounds, and professional experiences to create a thriving community in the classroom and beyond. Read more about W. P. Carey’s commitments to inclusive excellence and The Carey Code — a collective promise to the ideals of our school and the values we bring to all that we do.

I never thought that people would go out of their way to help strangers, but I experienced something different within a month into my MBA. My professors, classmates, program operations team, and executive mentors all get involved deeply in shaping my journey for success. People at the school accepted my differences and I’ve made the best connections and friends. The school is truly inclusive.

Partnerships and conferences

The W. P. Carey School of Business partners with a number of organizations to provide academic and professional resources to historically marginalized groups. W. P. Carey is a partner school with the Forté Foundation, Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), Prospanica, National Black MBA Association, and Reaching out MBA (ROMBA).

W. P. Carey proudly participates in the Forté Fellowship, National Black MBA Association Collegiate Scholarship, and ROMBA Fellowship programs, as well as the Coverdell Fellowship program through the Peace Corps. In addition, our staff and students routinely represent our inclusive spirit and innovative way of thinking at conferences such as the Forté MBA Leadership Conference, the ROMBA Annual Conference, the National Black MBA Association Conference, and the Prospanica Conference.

Events and resources

Throughout the year, the Multicultural Association hosts events for our students, including a Diwali celebration, regular cultural lunches, and the annual Confluence event — a large-scale showcase of the diversity within the Full-time MBA program. Additionally, in partnership with ASU’s Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, thought leadership sessions are held monthly to discuss issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Clubs and organizations

Student clubs and organizations are a significant part of helping you connect with your peers and build relationships as you share your own unique experiences and perspectives, becoming a stronger leader and the best version of yourself.

You don’t have to wait until you receive your degree to make an impact. We created community events while in the program, and also clubs and organizations that didn’t exist before.

In activities like golf, swimming, running, or the racquetball club we’ve created, you have a chance to connect outside of school. It translates to a better network and understanding of each other, which leads to better understanding in the classroom and afterward, when we are in our careers. Good leadership enables others to be themselves and feel comfortable in a group, now and in the future.
