Biography

Berthold Herrendorf is a professor in the economics department of the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Before coming to ASU, he taught at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain and the Universities of Southampton and Warwick in England. Berthold Herrendorf studied mathematics and economics at the University of Bonn, the University of California at Berkeley, and Indiana University and he received a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in Italy. Berthold Herrendorf grew up in Germany and is a dual citizen of Germany and the US. 

Berthold Herrendorf's broad area of specialization is macroeconomics. His current reserach interests lie in growth and development, in particular structural transformation (i.e., the reallocation of economic activity among broad sectors of the economy). Together with Richard Rogerson and Ákos Valentinyi, he contributed a chapter on Growth and Structural Transformation to the Handbook of Economic Growth (2104) that has become a standard reference on the subject. Berthold Herrendorf published his research in leading academic journals, including the American Economic Review, the American Economic Journal - Macroeconomics, the Economic Journal, the Journal of the European Economic Association, and the Review of Economic Studies

Berthold Herrendorf lives in the Lower Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, reading, spending time with his friends, and travelling. He also likes to cook and eat in great restaurants, in particular in the Spanish part of the Basque Country.
