Biography

Alwin is a pursuing his doctorate at Morrison School of Agribusiness. He was formerly a Research Associate at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT). He has completed his MPhil in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He was involved in qualitative and quantitative research while he was working at International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre and International Food Policy Research Institute. He has worked with farmers in India and Nepal. During his personal interaction with farmers from poorest regions of India, he found that agricultural development is the only means by which farmers can raise their income and their food security status. He also found that social networking among farmers is an important way to spread valuable information on high yielding seeds, technologies or on prices. This has influenced his research significantly. His area of interest lies on social networks among farmers, technology adoption and contract farming.
