Biography

Gustavo Ventura joined the W. P. Carey School of Business as an associate professor of economics in 2011.  

Ventura has been an active researcher in the economic taxation area for a number of years. His research interests focus on the determinants of inequality and their long-term effects. His recent research published in 2016 deals with the macroeconomic and welfare effects of expanding tranfers to households with children titled "Child-Related Transfers, Household Labor Supply and Welfare." His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Monetary EconomicsThe Review of Economic StudiesReview of Economic Dynamics, and International Economic Review

Before joining W. P. Carey, Ventura was an associate professor in the department of economics at the University of Iowa. He received his master's degree and PhD in economics from the University of Illinois. 

He currently serves as associate editor for the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control and Economic Inquiry. Ventura has been recognized for his achievements in academia, including the 2010 Professional Excellence in the Training of Economists Award and the 2008 Terker Family Prize in Investment Research Award.
