W. P. Carey Co-op Processes

Students and employers who participate in the W. P. Carey Undergraduate Co-op Program receive support every step of the way. Here you’ll find more information about our timelines, application processes, advising, and financial aid support.

Timelines

The W. P. Carey Undergraduate Co-op Program follows a structured timeline to help students and employers plan ahead with confidence. Staying aware of key dates ensures a smooth transition into the co-op experience.

Most co-op experiences begin in either January or July and run for six consecutive months. Applications typically open several months in advance — fall for spring starts, and spring for summer starts — giving both students and employers time to prepare, recruit, and coordinate schedules.

Application processes

The application process for the W. P. Carey Co-op Program is designed to mirror a real-world job search. Students apply to posted positions through Handshake, submit tailored resumes, and interview directly with employers.

Companies select candidates based on fit, interest, and readiness to contribute in a full-time role. The W. P. Carey Career Services Center offers support throughout the process, including resume reviews, interview preparation, and guidance on accepting offers.

Advising support

Advising support is a key part of the experience. W. P. Carey academic advisors help students determine how a co-op fits into their graduation plan and guide them through the process of pausing enrollment for one semester. Career coaches assist with identifying the right opportunities, preparing application materials, and navigating offer decisions. Throughout the experience, students have access to personalized support to ensure they stay on track academically and professionally.

Financial aid support

Many students use earnings from their co-op to help offset future educational expenses, and the W. P. Carey team is here to support students through the planning process to ensure a smooth financial transition.

The following student resource guide will help you understand how to manage scholarships and student loans — before, during, and after participating in the W. P. Carey Undergraduate Co-op Program.
