The innovative master’s in global logistics curriculum is delivered by faculty from the Department of Supply Chain Management in the W. P. With a foundational core curriculum and hybrid evening classes, the MS-GL from ASU will immediately open professional pathways and build skills you will use throughout your career.

Logistics degree curriculum

The MS-GL is a part-time program that requires 30 total credit hours to complete. Earn your master’s degree in just one year, through a combination of live in-person and online instruction. Students attend class at ASU’s West Valley campus on Tuesday evenings and join live online classes via ASU Sync on Thursday evenings.

You’ll unlock a broad scope of knowledge in the logistics space, from how emerging markets impact supply chains to project management principles to effective methods of managing resources and teams. You’ll also develop your critical thinking and communication skills and learn how to apply logistics methodologies in real-world contexts.

MS-GL courses

Explores supply chain management topics including environmental, project and supply chain processes. Additionally, covers processes in the areas of new product introduction development; quality control; TQM (Total Quality Mgt).

Provides a survey of concepts, structure and analytical tools that lay the foundation for employing quantitative techniques (descriptive and predictive) to gain insights that help decision makers make better decisions. Familiarizes students with descriptive statistics, probability and probability distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, linear regression, logistic regression and forecasting methods.

Covers decision modeling approaches for supply chain management such as optimization, simulation and decision analysis. Focuses on technology enablement, performance management and analytics, and strategy change and management. Emphasizes modeling using spreadsheet-oriented approaches. Additionally, focuses on financial spreadsheet analysis and its use in optimization.

Covers theories and practices of modern logistics management within a market-driven supply chain. Begins with an outline of reasons why some operations are not efficient, then introduces management tools to improve efficiency and responsiveness followed by application of analytical tools to evaluate the current logistic management practices. Topics include logistics strategy, demand management, distribution and warehouse management, distribution/warehouse design and location decisions, transportation and delivery frequency, reverse logistics, humanitarian logistics and responsive supply chains.

Applies principles, philosophies and processes of supply management to facilitate the continuous improvement and strategic design of an organization's supply management system on a global basis. Focuses on topics like performance management and analytics, project management and governance and finance. Provides a comprehensive understanding of supply management and its impact on the organization.

Global trade, global networks and the influence those networks have on economic development worldwide. Exposes geographic, economic and sociopolitical perspectives on these issues and invites students to draw conclusions from an increasingly informed perspective.

Students will be taught how to manage complex projects and to improve supply chains using sustainable strategies. Additionally, they will be taught problem solving and excel skills used in operations management.

Capstone experience for students in the MS in Global Logistics program. Synthesizes learnings from previous courses and applies this learning to specific issues that have a major global logistics component.

Preparation of a supervised applied project that is a graduation requirement in some professional majors.

Professional preparation

STEM designation

The W. P. Carey MS-GL program has been designated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security as a STEM eligible degree program (CIP code 52.1301). The STEM designation may allow eligible graduates on student visas access to an Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension, up to 36 months, as compared to 12 months for non-STEM degrees. As an international student, the longer work authorization term may help you gain additional real-world skills and experience in the U.S.
