The AZNext Quality Control for Technicians training program is a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification program. It provides entry-level and more senior employees the knowledge to understand the different phases of a Six Sigma project and how they can improve organizational processes. Program graduates will earn a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certificate issued by ASU.

This program consists of online modules including readings, exercises, and labs with two three-hour sessions of faculty-facilitated instruction led by Arunachala Mada Kannan, a professor in the Polytechnic School within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at ASU. These sessions are flexible to accommodate participants' working schedules.

Topics covered in the course include:

  • Basic statistics
  • Cost of Quality and Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)
  • QC Tools: Cause-and-effect diagram, check sheet, Pareto chart, histogram, flowchart, control chart, scatter diagram, regression
  • Six Sigma
  • Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC)
  • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

Who is this program for?

This quality control training program is ideal for participants currently employed in manufacturing. It is designed for working professionals interested in building foundational skills in quality control and process improvement, providing the essential knowledge needed to upskill. The program has no educational prerequisites or requirements for prior quality control experience. We welcome all to apply.

What will I learn?

Six Sigma is a quality methodology that uses the following phases to improve any process: Defining, measuring, analyzing, improving, and controlling. Participants who complete this program receive a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification that validates comprehension and proficiency in the fundamentals of process improvement strategy. Passing the program requires completing all online content and scoring 75% or higher on the final exam.

Successful participants in this program have the practical training to pursue a career as an engineering technician and in quality control. Engineering technicians assist engineers in determining the practicality of proposed product design changes. They plan and carry out tests on experimental test devices or equipment for performance, durability, or efficiency.
