Undergraduate - Plan Ahead
Arizona State University offers a variety of annual events for students and their families . During many of these events, the W. P. Carey School of Business offers its own programs specifically for our business students and their families.
Freshmen Orientation (March to July)
All incoming ASU freshmen are expected to attend Student Orientation. Students who attend ASU Orientation are more likely to be successful because they understand the academic rigor of the university and register for courses that keep them on track for graduation. Orientation events for incoming W. P. Carey students are scheduled in conjunction with the ASU program.
- Learn about your major's requirements.
- Meet with academic advisors and learn about our academic expectations.
- Plan for and enroll in appropriate courses in the correct sequence for your major.
- Explore opportunities to get involved on campus.
- Enjoy lunch with other students, parents and university staff.
- Meet campus representatives and learn about university resources.
Fall Welcome (August)
All new students at each ASU campus must attend ASU Fall Welcome, a series of events that will help you acclimate to campus life.
Fall Welcome is your opportunity to get acquainted with the campus, learn ASU traditions and become familiar with ASU services and resources. You have the chance to interact with other new students and families, and meet ASU faculty and staff.
The W. P. Carey Fall Welcome event is specifically for incoming students to the W. P. Carey School of Business. Join us to become better acquainted with business programs, faculty and staff, and learn more about W. P. Carey resources.
Camp Carey (August – September)
For freshman students only.
Camp Carey is a three-day retreat for incoming W. P. Carey freshmen held in Northern Arizona at the beginning of the fall semester. This signature event – expected of all W. P. Carey freshmen – provides an opportunity to connect with fellow students, staff, faculty and alumni through a variety of interactive activities.
Academic Bowl (October)
The Academic Bowl , co-sponsored by the offices of Public Affairs and Student Affairs, is modeled after the national College Bowl. Four-member teams compete in a question-and-answer format on a wide range of subjects, including current events, history, science, sports and culture.
The Academic Bowl features 16 teams of undergraduate students competing for college pride and scholarship money. Each member of the winning team is awarded a scholarship prize of up to $4,500, and the winning team’s alternate members (up to four) each receive a $1,000 scholarship. The college also wins the right to display the President’s Cup trophy for the next year.
Please come and support your students.
Family Weekend (October)
Parents and families are invited to join us for Family Weekend, a great time to come back to campus to visit your sons or daughters. During the weekend you can attend class with your student, talk with ASU faculty and staff, attend the Family Weekend Tailgate and watch the Sun Devil football team take on a Pac-12 opponent. We encourage you to bring the entire family.
The W. P. Carey School of Business hosts an Annual Family Weekend Lunch and Faculty Lecture Series as part of the ASU Family Weekend events.
You won't want to miss all the excitement of ASU Homecoming. This event promises fun for the whole family, including the homecoming parade, block party, picnic, live entertainment and a Sun Devil football game.
The W. P. Carey School of Business also offers homecoming events for students and their families.
Commencement (December and May)
Commencement is a special celebration, with tradition and symbolism dating back centuries in the history of higher education. This is the occasion when your degree will be officially conferred upon you. Students, faculty and staff from all colleges and all four ASU campuses participate in University Commencement. W. P. Carey graduates also are honored at special business school convocation ceremonies.
