Mike Haynes Golf Classic and Tailgate Party Benefits

The 2003 Mike Haynes Golf Classic sponsored by the W. P. Carey MBA at Arizona State University tees off at 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, and wraps up with a tailgate party on Oct. 11 three hours prior to kickoff of the ASU vs. Oregon football game

The tournament, named for ASU football legend and W. P. Carey School of Business alumnus Mike Haynes, has grown into a highly anticipated event among local and national business leaders. This year, the goal is to raise scholarship funds for under-represented students interested in pursuing the W. P. Carey MBA sports business specialization.

"The sports business industry is growing rapidly, both in Arizona and across the country," said James Kahler, executive director of the W. P. Carey MBA sports business specialization. "The W. P. Carey MBA is on its way to becoming one of the premier sports business graduate degree programs in the country, but unfortunately, many of our best prospects don't have the financial resources to pursue an advanced degree. Our goal for both the tournament and the tailgate party is to raise as many funds as possible to support our scholarship program."

The Mike Haynes Golf Classic begins with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. at the Legacy Golf Resort, 6808 S. 32nd St., Phoenix. Tournament spots and sponsorships opportunities are still available and range from $2,500 to $10,000. A silent auction, featuring a wide selection of sports memorabilia from around the country, will take place during a luncheon immediately following the tournament.

W. P. Carey MBA sports business students and faculty will also host a tailgate party at Athletes Performance, a world class training and recovery facility for professional and amateur athletes, at 9:30 a.m. - three hours before the 12:30 p.m. kickoff of the ASU vs. Oregon football game. Tickets can be purchased for $10 and include unlimited food and drink and tours of the Athletes Performance facilities, located south of Karsten Golf Course and east of the Rural Road and 6th Street intersection, Tempe.
