At the very core of being an effective leader is the ability to effectively influence others in the pursuit of organizational goals. This workshop is designed to give students experience in influencing others, as well as provide a foundation in the essential aspects of power crucial to being an effective leader. The emphasis of the workshop is on experiential learning - students will spend a large part of the session engaging in a power/influence simulation, as well as discussing how the knowledge gained from that simulation pertains to many of the situations that arise daily in the workplace. The goal is to provide working managers with a fundamental understanding of what it takes to be an everyday effective leader through more effective ways of influencing others. Learning Objectives -Gain vital insights into the theory and practice of power and influence; -Expand your abilities in key skill areas related to influencing others to help achieve the organization's goals; -Engage with other participants in a power/influence simulation and have the opportunity to apply new knowledge and skills during that simulation; and -Build a foundation of self-reflective knowledge to help you grow in your potential to be an effective leader for the benefit of your work organization.
