Facilitate ASU 101: Academic Success at ASU

FALL of 2008

ASU 101 is student success course for freshman business students that are participating in a W. P. Carey Academic Cohort.

Facilitating ASU 101 will allow you to gain valuable public speaking, communication and leadership skills.  You will also have the opportunity to impact the lives of incoming freshman by sharing with them your experiences. Another perk of this program is you will be able to develop relationships with staff, faculty, and your peers in the W. P. Carey School of Business.

Requirements

  • Must be admitted to a major in the W. P. Carey School of Business by Fall 2008
  • Academically Successful student
  • Knowledgeable about campus and W. P. Carey School of Business resources
  • Enthusiastic about ASU
  • Comfortable interacting with professors as well as other students
  • Must be available for training in May and August

Responsibilities

  • Teach a one-credit section of ASU 101 once a week
  • Enroll in the WPC 394 Facilitator Seminar
  • Help first-semester business freshmen adjust to life at ASU
  • Introduce freshman to the facilities and resources available throughout campus
  • Teach skills for academic success
  • Facilitate discussions
  • Design and grade assignments
  • Serve as role model for students
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans
  • Facilitators receive three hours of upper division business elective credit, WPC 394.

To APPLY

Applications will be accepted until Friday March 7, 2008.

Submit cover letter and resume - detailing public speaking, teaching or other relevant experience - to BA 109. Interviews will begin at the end of March or early April.

Required Training

  • One half day in May
  • 2 days of training the Wednesday and Thursday before Fall semester starts
  • Weekly training in WPC 394
