W. P. Carey School Academic BowlOctober 10 marks the first competition date of ASU’s 2007 Academic Bowl, the second-annual undergraduate academic competition. Teams from 16 colleges across four campuses will compete for the championship title, the trophy cup, and $4500 scholarships. In 2006, the W. P. Carey School of Business team earned 2nd place in the Academic Bowl competition after a very close championship round against the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering. The 2007 team has been preparing for another challenging season and is looking forward to the opportunity to demonstrate their quiz bowl skills. The 2007 ASU Academic Bowl Competition will take place throughout the month of October. Competition dates are: October 10 and 11 for the opening rounds, beginning at 7:00 p. m. in Memorial Union, Pima Room The W. P. Academic Bowl Team Members:Derek Guizado, an honors Marketing student graduating this spring, is originally from Orange County, California. Participating in quiz bowls is a hobby of Derek’s; he participated in quiz bowl competitions in high school and was part of the W. P. Carey School team last year. When not in class or learning new trivia, Derek spends a lot of time participating in activities and events for Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Finance senior Aaron Oaks, originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, is a Business Honors student and National Merit Scholar. He has also been recognized at the Hall of Fame Student Showcase and earned the Economic Club of Phoenix Scholarship. Aaron spends a lot of time studying and working, but also manages to be very involved with the Business School Council, Devil’s Advocates, Consulting Scholars, Capital Investment Association, and Camp Carey Programming. Rishi Mohnot is a Business Honors freshman from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania majoring in Finance and Economics. He competed in academic competitions in high school and has enjoyed the opportunity to represent the W. P. Carey School in this competition during his first semester as a college student. Supply Chain Management junior Alex Porter from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is recognized as a National Merit Scholar and is a student of Barrett, The Honors College. Alex hopes that his experiences, including competing in last year’s Academic Bowl and studying abroad in Paris, will help bring the W. P. Carey team to victory this year. Alternates Finance junior Adam Michelow of Phoenix is Vice-President of the Entrepreneurial Finance Club. Adam served as an alternate on the Academic Bowl team in 2006. From Scottsdale, honors student Andrew Shaw is beginning his third year majoring in Finance. This is Andrew’s first year to be involved with the team representing W.P. Carey in the Academic Bowl. |
