Advising

Who is my advisor?
Business advisors are trained professionals who are knowledgeable about university academic policies and requirements. All students interested in an undergraduate business degree from the W. P. Carey School of Business are encouraged to visit an academic advisor housed in BA 109. Please note that you need a valid picture ID to see an advisor. Each business advisor is assigned to a specific W. P. Carey School of Business major. The first step is to find out your advisor's office hours, based on the major you have selected, and come to BA 109 during those hours to be seen on a first come, first served basis. Please note that posted office hours may occasionally change without notice. Students who are not assigned to a specific major are encouraged to visit any available advisor.

What can I expect during an advising visit?
Advisors are here to help you! To make the most of your visit, print out your DARS audit and write down 3-5 questions. This will allow your advisor to focus on your specific needs.

How often should I plan to see my advisor?
Students are encouraged to visit their advisor at least once each semester.

Can I be advised over the phone or email?
Ideally, you should visit your advisor in person; however, there are situations where you can be advised over the phone or email. You are always encouraged to contact your advisor directly.

How do I set up an appointment?
There are situations that require longer advisor meetings. In that case, students are encouraged to contact their advisor by phone or email to schedule a thirty minute appointment.
Advisors are not available for scheduled appointments during peak advising times (beginning of semesters and during early registration). Please plan ahead and schedule appointments either before or after registration periods to avoid long wait times.
Catalog Eligibility

How is catalog year determined?
The General Catalog is published annually. Department, school, division, college and university requirements may change and are upgraded often. In determining graduation requirements, an undergraduate student may use only one edition of the General Catalog but may elect to follow any subsequent catalog. Students maintaining continuous enrollment at any public Arizona community college or university may graduate according to the requirements of the catalog in effect at the time of initial enrollment or according to the requirements of any single catalog in effect during subsequent terms of continuous enrollment.
Your advisor will verify your catalog year.

Will I ever lose eligibility to graduate under my catalog's degree requirements?
If you are out of school for three consecutive semesters, you will no longer be eligible to follow the same catalog requirements. You will be readmitted under the new catalog in effect at the time of your readmission. However, if you left ASU but attended any Arizona Community College, U of A, or NAU during that time, you can remain under your original catalog.
