Supply Chain Management Major

This major includes the functions of planning, organizing, and controlling the flow of purchased materials into and out of the organization. Attention is given to analyzing and selecting vendors, price determination, value analysis, and disposal of scrap and surplus materials. Emphasis is also on the efficient use of transportation services by business management within a framework of logistics systems, government transportation policy relative to freight and passengers transportation, and the management of transportation shipper and carrier organizations. Graduates are employed by industrial firms, carriers, and governmental agencies.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FIELD

Supply Chain Management majors are prepared for such entry-level positions as:

  • purchasing or logistics planner or analyst
  • buyer or commodity manager with a career track to the vice president of procurement, logistics or operations
  • a variety of firms in manufacturing, process industries, and the service sector regularly recruit graduates

HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE PREPARATION

High school students should have a strong college preparation record and be well prepared in math, science, and English. Students are also encouraged to take social studies courses.
