Management Major

This major includes the functions of planning, organizing, staffing, motivating, and controlling in the business setting; yet management is more than mere administration. Good managers make things happen through their actions within an organization and through responsible contributions to society. The Department of Management offers international business seminars for its students, and it provides students opportunities to specialize in management systems or human resources management.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FIELD

  • Graduates often take entry-level positions with Fortune 500 companies as management trainees. 
  • Some graduates move immediately into responsible positions with smaller firm
  • Other graduates become entrepreneurs and start their own businesses

UNIQUENESS OF THE PROGRAM AT ASU

Course content is continually reviewed to include necessary workplace competencies. The Department of Management defines the cluster of required courses for each emphasis within the major, including general management, managing business processes, human resource management, small business management and entrepreneurship. To further tailor the education experience to the career interest of the student, a variety of management electives is available to complement the required courses. The department offers international business seminars for its students, and it provides students opportunities to specialize in management systems or human resources management. 

HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE PREPARATION

High school students should have a strong college preparation record and be well prepared in math, science, and English. Courses in writing and public speaking are invaluable.
