Certificate in Small Business and Entrepreneurship

A certificate in Small Business and Entrepreneurship is available to only business majors at ASU.

Requirements

To earn the Certificate in Small Business and Entrepreneurship, business majors must accumulate fifteen (15) credit hours by completing the following coursework:

  • MGT 440 Small Business and Entrepreneurship (3 credits)
  • MGT 445 Business Plan Development (3 credits)
  • Nine additional credits from the “Approved Electives for Business Majors for Certificate in Small Business and Entrepreneurship” attached.

Additionally,

  • Students must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in MKT 300 and MGT 300 (or be a MGT major) before taking MGT 440
  • MGT 440 Small Business and Entrepreneurship is a prerequisite for taking MGT 445 Business Plan Development.
  • A maximum of 6 credits can overlap with credits used in the student’s major.
  • There can be no credit hour overlap with courses used to satisfy any other certificate program.
  • No courses from the business core can be used to satisfy the requirements for the Certificate in Small Business and Entrepreneurship for Business Majors.
  • Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in each course used to accumulate the fifteen (15) credit hours.

ACC 350 Internal Reporting (3 credits)

ACC 430 Taxes and Business Decisions (3 credits)

MGT 294 Automotive Entrepreneurship (1 hour)

MGT 394 ST: Entrepreneurship (2 hours)

MGT 464 Collaborative Design Development I. (5 credits)

MGT 465 Collaborative Design Development II. (5 credits)

1The above courses offer business majors the opportunity to pursue issues important to success in entrepreneurial ventures.  Courses in bold are recommended as best matching the purpose of the Certificate. Satisfying the prerequisites for these courses is the responsibility of the student electing to take them.
