Where will I live when I'm abroad?
It depends on the program you choose. On summer programs you will usually share a room with another ASU program participant at the host school?s dormitory. But semester and year-long programs may offer the opportunity to have your own room, an apartment, or home-stay. In all cases you will be assisted in locating appropriate housing. You will not be left to find housing on your own in a foreign country.
Do I need to speak a foreign language?
No, you do not need to speak a foreign language. In fact, most programs are offered in English (all summer programs are offered in English). However, if you do have fluency in a language other than English, there are additional program opportunities that you may want to consider.
Will the credit taken abroad transfer to ASU?
Yes. By participating on an ASU sponsored international program, you are earning ASU resident credit, not "transfer" credit. Earning ASU resident credit means that the grades you earn on the course abroad will factor into your ASU GPA and the courses you take will appear on your ASU transcript and count toward completion of your degree program.
How does study abroad affect critical tracking requirements?
If you are under critical tracking (contact your major advisor if you are unsure) and participating on an international program, your critical tracking requirements will be waived for the term that you are away from ASU.
What are the application deadlines to study abroad?
Application deadlines vary depending on when you are studying abroad. February 1-March 1 is generally the application period for summer programs. Some summer programs may fill quickly, so you are encouraged to apply early for these programs.
March 1 is the deadline for fall and academic year study abroad. October 1 is the deadline for spring study abroad.
