Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I apply for the portfolio?
ANSWER: If you do not meet one of the direct admission requirements for the W. P. Carey major of your choice, then you may be able to gain admittance via the admission portfolio.
I am already a W. P. Carey student and I would like to add on a concurrent business major/degree.
ANSWER: You may submit a concurrent degree application, which is similar to the portfolio application. Select “concurrent degree” for the resume type on the admission portfolio application.
I am a transfer student – do I only need to submit the admission portfolio to gain admittance to W. P. Carey?
ANSWER: If you are a transfer student, you must apply to Arizona State University and be admissible to ASU before submitting the Admission Portfolio. If you do not apply to ASU, your admission portfolio will be voided.
How do I know if I am eligible to submit a portfolio?
ANSWER: Visit the portfolio website for the requirements that must be met in order to submit a portfolio.
If I have already submitted ACT or SAT test scores to ASU, do I still need to submit copies of those test scores?
ANSWER: NO, you do not need to submit ACT or SAT test score reports if they are already posted via your MyASU page. If you have recently taken the ACT or SAT and have not yet submitted those scores to ASU, then you must submit a test score report to the W. P. Carey School of Business and ASU’s Admissions Office.
Why is there an option for first and second choice major on the portfolio application?
ANSWER: If you are not accepted to your first choice major, the academic department of your second choice major will also review your portfolio. It is not required to choose a second choice major, however it is recommended.
Are the letters of recommendation required or optional?
ANSWER: The letters of recommendation are optional.
When will I be notified regarding the portfolio results?
ANSWER: Students are notified of the portfolio process results approximately 6-8 weeks after the close of the application cycle.
My portfolio was accepted. What are my next steps?
ANSWER: Once your portfolio is accepted, it may take several weeks for your major to change or for your concurrent degree to show up on myasu.edu. You should meet with the academic advisor of your new major to plan out your next semester classes.
My portfolio application was denied. What are my options for future admission?
ANSWER: Each student can submit a portfolio up to two times during their undergrad program. If an application is voided (i.e. student has not completed the proper skill courses), it will not count as an attempt. Depending on your situation, you may want to try to portfolio a second time OR try to gain direct admission to the school by raising your GPA or re-taking the ACT/SAT.
ASU and W. P. Carey offers many certificates and minors that are available to non-business majors may provide you with the knowledge and coursework that you are seeking in order to have a well-rounded business education.
