The theory and practice of economics affect everyone, whether you are the head of a family living on a budget or a corporate economist collecting data and making forecasts relevant to your firm’s success. At the W. P. Carey School, you study all facets of the economy while working with world-class faculty that includes a Nobel Prize-winning economist.
Our graduates have taken positions as corporate economists; consultants who serve as advisers to state and federal governments and private corporations; and in banking and financial services. Each year many graduates pursue studies at some of the best graduate schools in the country. Faculty members have received numerous teaching awards and their evaluations from students are consistently high. Economics faculty members also are actively engaged in scholarly research leading to publication in the major economics journals.
A major in economics provides you with the analytical and quantitative skills needed to prepare you for careers in business, government or public policy. The course of study also can be tailored to prepare you for graduate programs in economics, business or law. Students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in economics are strongly encouraged to minor or major in mathematics.
