Really Simple Syndication (RSS)  is a family of XML file formats for web syndication used by news websites and weblogs. They are used to provide items containing short descriptions of web content together with a link to the full version of the content. Users can then subscribe to feeds and automatically receive updated information whenever new content is published.

What is the purpose of an RSS Feed or an Aggregator?

For people that read lots of pages that have RSS feeds or have a slow internet connection an aggregator is very useful. RSS aggregators periodically check for new items in the feeds you are subscribed to. So rather than having to browse through your most favorite websites, the news comes to you. This can save a lot of time. When you use a feed/aggregator you avoid all the old information on a web page, so only the new information is displayed without having to load fancy graphics, flashy designs, or other things that really slow down a connection.

How can I find or subscribe to an RSS Feed?

You can subscribe to feeds you visit directly on a page or by going to a directory that indexes feeds, such as Syndic8.

  clicking the icon will tell how you can view the feed in your browser.
