MASTER OF HEALTH SECTOR MANAGEMENT
Program Description
The School of Health Management & Policy offers an evening program leading to the Master of Health Sector Management (MHSM) degree with a variety of elective courses. The program is also offered cooperatively with the W. P. Carey School of Business MBA programs, allowing students the option to earn a concurrent MBA/MHSM degree.
In the Managerial Epidemiology and the Managing Clinical Trials courses students learn how to use evidence, gathered in the course of clinical and epidemiological research, to make managerial decisions that enhance delivery of health care, improve system performance, and maximize safety and clinical outcomes. The Comparative Health Policy and Health Policy Management and Evaluation courses provide an understanding of how health policy affects both the business of healthcare and economic health of businesses. Students are trained to manage the implementation and evaluation of health policy in a variety of settings, including: federal and state agencies, health consulting firms and advocacy groups. Health Management courses provide an understanding of how a variety of approaches can be applied to a wide spectrum of health care delivery and financing settings.
There are two platforms that students may use to complete the MHSM degree. All coursework begins during the fall term and students are only admitted once per year.
