Core Values and Vision

The Department of Supply Chain Management provides excellent academic instruction and research that advances the state of knowledge in global supply chain management while studying issues of practical importance. We view supply chain management as the planning, execution, and control of strategic, tactical and operational decisions that facilitate the movement of materials/services, resources and information among and within firms. These decisions necessarily involve and must integrate across traditional disciplinary areas such as supply management, operations management, and logistics. Supply chains are integrated processes that address all aspects of the product and service lifecycle from new product/service design to final customer delivery and product disposal. Hence, we give special emphasis to supply management, logistics, operations and information management, and to the value that can be created by an integrated consideration of these processes along with advanced design and production approaches.

Our academic programs admit well-qualified students and prepare them to immediately take leadership roles as supply chain managers and consultants, and to assume increasingly important roles related to supply chain operations and executive leadership. Our faculty has a worldwide reputation for expertise in supply management, operations management, logistics, and supply chain performance optimization, and the faculty uses this expertise to provide our students with a competitive advantage. Our faculty will continue to conduct leading-edge supply chain management research that advances the field, and we will continue to bring this research into the classroom to advance the skills of our graduates.

Our graduates have the knowledge and skills needed to improve an organization's excellence in supply chains for the global e-commerce environment, including costing, process analysis, design, relationship building, decision-making, project management, and e-commerce. We prepare graduates who understand how to develop and operate supply chains that provide improved customer service combined with added profitability and responsible corporate citizenship. (5/19/03)
