Division of Real Estate Advisory Board and Honorary Advisory Board

The mission of the Advisory Board of the Division of Real Estate, W. P. Carey School of Business, of Arizona State University is to provide advice periodically in formal meetings and through informal contacts to the department on critical issues of placement, curriculum, training, and pragmatic research needs. In addition, Board members may be asked by faculty from time to time to be guest speakers in undergraduate and graduate classes. The Board also provides base financial support to the department and aids in departmental fund raising efforts designed to support programmatic, faculty, and student development. In forming this Advisory Board, it is the belief of the faculty of the Department of Finance that constructive engagement with distinguished members of the business community will further the mission of the department in training students to become productive contributors to the economy.

Stephen Evans
President
Evans Realty Associates, Inc.
Steve Evans is President of Evans Realty Associates, a private real estate investment company. He is also a Trustee of Equity Residential Properties Trust, America’s largest multifamily company. Prior to its merger with Equity Residential in 1997, Mr. Evans was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Evans Withycombe Residential. Evans Withycombe Residential was a publicly traded company specializing in apartments in the Southwest with a market capitalization of $1.2B. Prior to founding Evans Withycombe Residential in 1997, Mr. Evans was Investment Vice President of W.R. Schulz and Associates, an apartment investment company.
Mr. Evans business affiliations have included: Arizona Multi-housing Association; Greater Phoenix Economic Council; Phoenix Community Alliance; Urban Land Institute; Multifamily Council; Lambda Alpha Land Economics Fraternity; National Multifamily Council; and National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. He has held various offices with these professional organizations.
Steve served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He has been a resident of Arizona since 1963 and is married with three children and three grandchildren.
Helping the community, he has been active with the following non-profit organizations: Homeward Bound, W. P. Carey School of Business; Valley of the Sun United Way and the Stardust Foundation.

Gary Herberger
President
Herberger Enterprises, Inc.
Gary is the President of Herberger Enterprises Inc., a closely held family corporation involved in land acquisition, planning and development of commercial, industrial and residential property. He served as the Vice President for the Herberger Foundation from 1952-1999, he became President in 1999 and currently holds that position. Gary has previously served as Chairman for the Board of Trustees for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. He has been a registered architect in Arizona since 1965. Gary's philanthropic interests include the Herberger Foundation, and the Arizona Community Foundation. He and his wife Jeanne have donated to the Arizona Foundation for Women, Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona Theatre Company, and the Phoenix Symphony. He is a graduate of Pomona College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The former Arthur Andersen partner has led Coldwell Banker Success Realty with creativity, strong management and dedication to the community since 1992. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. McCord's vision led to the founding of the Coldwell Banker Success Charitable Foundation in 1998, offering support to Phoenix and Tucson agencies providing community service in the areas of housing, education and social services. His leadership was instrumental in Coldwell Banker Success Realty's designation as a member of the Chairman's Circle, an honor reserved for the top 5 percent of affiliates in the Coldwell Banker network of real estate offices in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Israel and Southeast Asia.

Christopher Cole

Cole Companies
Christopher H. Cole is the founder, Chief Executive Officer and chairman of the board of Cole Companies, a sponsor of real estate investment funds. Mr. Cole has been actively engaged in the structuring and management of real estate investment programs including REITs, 1031 exchanges, limited partnerships and LLCs since founding Cole Companies in 1979.
For the last three decades, Cole has formed and managed over 100 real estate investment programs, owning real estate with a combined acquisition and development cost of over $3 billion. Mr. Cole is a seasoned veteran in the commercial real estate arena having been through diverse cycles in the market and has managed Cole to consistently deliver the performance promised to investors. Chris is well respected in the real estate and financial services industries, and he is a frequent speaker at broker dealer, public funds and real estate industry conferences. Cole Companies is based in Phoenix, Arizona and has approximately 150 employees.
In May 2007, Mr. Cole was presented with the Distinguished Achievement Award from W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University for his contributions to the school of business, the university and his community.
