Marketing Department Ranked 9th in Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index

The W. P. Carey School’s department of marketing is ranked in the top 10 for faculty research in the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index, an annual survey produced by Academic Analytics, and reported exclusively in the Chronicle of Higher Education on Jan. 12. According to the index, the W. P. Carey marketing department ranked 9th in its field. The University of Pennsylvania was ranked first, followed by Northwestern University. Only two other departments at ASU were ranked – Geosciences (5th) and Kinesiology (9th). The most recent index was based on data from 2005.

The Faculty Scholarly Index was financed (in part) by the State University of New York at Stony Brook. It ranks the research output of faculty at 7,294 individual doctoral programs in 104 disciplines at 354 institutions, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Web site.

Ray Artigue

Ray Artigue, professor of marketing and director of the W. P. Carey MBA Sports Business program, reports that the program was recently highlighted by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top five graduate sports business programs in the U.S. In an article titled, “The Business of Sports, Failing Effort,” (Sept. 16, 2006 edition) writer John Helyar noted that there are about 300 universities in the U.S. offering sports management programs – and yet they do not necessarily yield great sports jobs after students graduate. By contrast, the W. P. Carey School program was noted for its faculty (naming Artigue) having been “real-life practitioners,” and for offering real-world experience – as W. P. Carey MBA students have done Web site consulting for the Los Angeles Lakers and Seattle Seahawks.

Andrea Morales

Andrea Morales, assistant professor of marketing, was included among a select group of outstanding researchers who are being honored as the Marketing Science Institute’s Young Scholars for 2007. She has been invited to attend the institute’s fourth biennial Young Scholars Program in January in Park City, Utah. The event is intended to bring together some of the most promising “younger” academics (those who earned doctoral degrees 3-6 years ago) in a small group of about 20 attendees, in the hopes of enhancing their research collaboration and involvement with MSI, according to the organization.
