Test Requirements

The W. P. Carey School of Business accepts Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores for W. P. Carey MBA applicants.

The GMAT is a computer-adaptive test that measures general verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills. GMAT scores can range from 200 to 800 and are valid for five years from the test date. The GMAT Web site New Window provides information on how to prepare for the GMAT and how to register for a test date and location. You may want to check your local area for additional test preparation resources.

The GRE new window revised General Test combines verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing. If you choose to submit GRE scores, you can petition the Admissions Committee for a GMAT waiver if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • You have earned a doctoral degree from an accredited college or university
  • You have earned a master's degree from an accredited college or university and have a GRE score associated with that degree (even an expired score)
  • You have reported official GRE test scores from within the past five years directly to ASU.

Scores should fall within the predicted GMAT range of our class profile. Each waiver is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and does not guarantee admission outright. Evidence provided in a successful GMAT waiver will be considered during the overall admissions review of a completed application.

Submission of GMAT Scores

You will be asked to report both the score number and percentile obtained for the verbal, quantitative and analytical section of the GMAT during the online application process if you already have taken the test.

Applicants with future test dates or those who have not taken the test should leave this section blank and provide the planned test date in Essay No. 3. Applicants with multiple test scores should list the highest GMAT results.

If you are attempting to meet a specific W. P. Carey MBA application submission deadline, the test should be taken no later than two weeks prior to that date. ASU receives official test scores two weeks after the test date. ASU's GMAT institutional code for the W. P. Carey MBA is 0GZ-1R-09.

The official GMAT score must be forwarded to the W. P. Carey MBA by PearsonVUE New Window. Test scores must be received directly from the agency administering the test. To request your GMAT score be sent to the W. P. Carey MBA, contact the PearsonVUE at 1-800-717-GMAT (4628) or 1-952-681-3680. Photocopies are not accepted.

For immediate consideration, you may fax unofficial scores received upon completion of the test to the W. P. Carey MBA Admissions Office at 480-965-8569. Unofficial scores may be used for an initial evaluation of your file until official scores are received.

Retaking the GMAT

If you decide to retake the GMAT, or if the Admissions Committee requests that you take it again, please notify us by e-mail of your new test date.

Upon your request, an application will be re-evaluated based on the new GMAT scores. Denied applicants must reapply with new GMAT scores if seeking admission for the same academic start date.
