MBA / MSE Industrial Engineering

A partnership between the W. P. Carey School of Business and the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering.

The online MBA/MSE in Industrial Engineering dual degree is designed for working professionals who have an undergraduate engineering, science, or mathematics degree and at least one year of work experience, and who are beginning to take on management responsibilities. This degree is also for managers who want to stay current in their area of expertise and sense the need to develop enhanced business acumen. Students typically remain employed while they are in the program.

Program Description

The MBA/MSE in Industrial Engineering dual degree is an online program that requires 56 credit hours of study comprised of eight courses from the MBA program and eight courses from the MSE program, for a total of 16 courses to receive both degrees over a three year period. Students will progress through the program as a cohort made up of teams. Past participants in the MBA and MSE IE programs represent retail, supply chain/logistics, financial, healthcare, manufacturing, telecommunications, semiconductor, and defense industry sectors—providing a diverse and rich culture for exchanging ideas and strategies.

The MBA/MSE in Industrial Engineering features the following:

  • Initial on-campus orientation providing interaction with student colleagues and faculty
  • Lockstep MBA curriculum—students enter and take all MBA courses as a group
  • Courses taught in sequence with all required interaction taking place online
  • Flexible choices of four focused Industrial Engineering areas:
    (1) Information Systems and Management Systems Engineering
    (2) Operations Research and Production Systems
    (3) Quality and Reliability Engineering
    (4) Logistics/Supply Chain Engineering
  • Start Date: Next cohort commencing in July 2008 with Orientation July 14–17

Application Process

Admission committees from the two schools individually review applications and provide an admission recommendation to the ASU Graduate College. Admission recommendations are made independently based on established requirements and criteria for each school.

Entrance to the MBA/MSE IE program is contingent upon the student meeting all normal requirements of the ASU Graduate College, as well as the competitive admission requirements of the W. P. Carey MBA, and the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering MSE in Industrial Engineering program.

Only one application from the student is necessary for both programs, and it must include answers to three essay questions and a current resume. In addition, two letters of reference and official transcripts should be submitted directly to the ASU Graduate College. 

MBA Admission Requirements
  • Regionally accredited undergraduate degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last two years of study.
  • Competitive GMAT score.
  • If required, TOEFL score of 580 minimum (PBT) or 237 (CAT).
  • Minimum of one year of professional work experience, with continuing employment (dual degree applicants only); two years preferred.
MSE IE Admission Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree in industrial engineering, another engineering discipline, computer science, mathematics, or science generally required (baccalaureate degree in a business discipline to be considered on a case by case basis).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.20.
