The MBA/JD is a four-year, full-time concurrent degree program offered by the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law and the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
Interested applicants should apply and be accepted to both the full-time MBA and JD program according to stated program application deadlines prior to beginning classes in the fall. Current ASU students already enrolled in the JD program should contact the W. P. Carey Office of Admissions for information.
MBA/JD Curriculum
MBA/JD students at Arizona State University spend one year completing 36 credits of core MBA coursework and 88 credit hours of JD coursework. The W. P. Carey School of Business and Sandra Day O'Conner College of Law share 12 credits completed towards the MBA/JD degree. MBA/JD students do not graduate from either program until the required coursework for both the MBA and JD degree is complete.
1st Year MBA Curriculum
The 36 MBA credits are composed of the first year core courses. Strategic Management and an additional elective are taken in trimester III instead of two elective courses. MBA/JD students are waived out of both Legal and Ethical Issues for Business (LES 579) and Global Business Environment (ECN 503) which are typically taken during the second year of the full-time MBA program. MBA/JD students do not complete a specialization through the MBA program. The MBA program will accept 12 elective credits from the JD program to fulfill the 48 credits required for the MBA degree.
