MBA Full-time

The Value of Internships

Internships are a significant component of the W. P. Carey MBA experience. Students are strongly encouraged to complete an internship between their first and second years of study. Students can assess their chosen career area and put into practice the knowledge and skills they learned in their first year of MBA study. Internships also provide direct access to hiring managers and full-time employment opportunities. Offering the chance to demonstrate abilities and organizational fit to a company, the internship is an invaluable career search tool.

Marketing Internship: Honeywell

My first-year MBA courses equipped me with the tools to develop a strategic business case which identified capability gaps and highlighted existing competencies to successfully bring new products to market. The internship culminated in a presentation of the business plan and recommendations to an executive team including the CEO of Honeywell Specialty Materials.

My internship at Honeywell’s corporate headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey with the Specialty Materials Strategic Technology Development group was invaluable. It honed my business skills and gave me hands-on experience in a global corporation.

During my internship, I had the opportunity to interact with not only senior managers of the specialty materials group, but several Strategic Business Enterprise leaders across the globe. My project involved performing a Stage 1 Gate Review which is part of Honeywell’s Product Development Process.

To understand key customer issues and industry trends, I evaluated a $600 million business opportunity by integrating information from

  • market research and competitive analysis
  • interviews with business leaders
  • surveys with end-users in the industry
