Sample Cost of Attendance

The sample cost of attendance demonstrates how much financial aid you will be awarded in a given academic year. ASU only bills for tuition and fees. However, for financial aid purposes, we are able to provide additional assistance for living expenses.

*NOTE: All amounts shown in the Tuition and Fees Schedules or in other University publications or web pages represent tuition and fees as currently approved. However, Arizona State University reserves the right to increase or modify tuition and fees without prior notice, upon approval by the Arizona Board of Regents or as otherwise consistent with Board policy and to make such modifications applicable to students enrolled at ASU at that time as well as to incoming students. In addition, all tuition amounts and fees are subject to change at any time for correction of errors. Finally, please note that fee amounts billed for any period may be adjusted at a future date.

Cost of Attendance

The cost of attendance is your budget for financial aid, and consists of tuition and fees, books and supplies, housing, transportation and personal expenses. Therefore, your cost of attendance will exceed the amount of your tuition and fees each year. Please note that housing, transportation and personal expenses are not fixed university costs.

Expected Family Contribution

The expected family contribution (EFC), which you will receive upon completion of the FAFSA, represents your financial strength. The EFC does not represent the dollar amount you will pay towards your education but rather determines the type of aid you are eligible to receive based on your need.

Need

Your calculated amount of need allows the ASU Financial Assistance Office to determine the type of aid you are eligible to receive. Your need is the difference between your cost of attendance and your EFC.

Need = Cost of Attendance – Expected Family Contribution
