Christine McSweeney, MBA 2009
Associate Administrator, Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center
I chose the W. P. Carey MBA for the International and Public Policy Practicum. This was a unique differentiator when comparing it to other programs, and I knew that it would stand out in my degree.
From my perspective... I currently work in the health sector and quickly found the curriculum was quite applicable to my everyday work. The finance course allowed me to better understand and communicate financial concepts with my CEO and CFO in light of the recent economic downturn. The public policy course, which takes place the summer between the first and second year, was a highlight of the program. Before flying to Washington, D.C., we went to the Arizona State Capitol to participate in simulated learning to understand the intricacies of state politics. On Capitol Hill, class members interacted with speakers and the press as they gained greater perspective on the public policy process. These experiences allowed me to grow as an individual, and as a leader. I now have a wider breadth of knowledge and a deeper understanding of the complexities of business.
