MGT 591: Business & Public Policy
This course is held in Washington, D.C. and in the state capitol of Phoenix during the summer at the end of the first year of study. This is a strategy course. It helps managers understand how public policies can create opportunities or threats for their organizations, and how they can develop and organize their resources to participate effectively in the public policy process. A key take away from this course is that democracy is not a spectator sport.
In this course students will:
- See firsthand the structure and operations of the various branches of government;
- Learn how to monitor and anticipate key public policy decisions and assess the various political players and their interests;
- Participate in a simulation in which key policy decisions are made;
- Gain insight and appreciation for the importance of considering public policy issues when thinking strategically about their organization's current operations and future plans.
MGT 583: International Practicum
An overseas course designed to provide direct insight into the international business environment and application of concepts learned in MGT 559: International Management. Each day students will:
- Visit business and industries of interest
- Discuss live case examples with local business leaders, government administrators and industry experts
- Engage in case discussions and case examples with local professors
This is a rigorous class with written and oral components expected as outcomes. Students are responsible for paying their flight expenses. MBA tuition covers airport transfers, lodging based on double occupancy, local transportation, entry fees and most meals.
Additional transportation costs to/from offsite electives may be required in addition to ASU and W. P. Carey tuition.
