2004/2005 Curriculum (Subject to change)

As a W. P. Carey MBA student, the first year is largely devoted to our strong general management core courses. In the fourth term of the first year, students take required Financial Management and Markets class to help prepare them for summer internships between the first and second year of study. All W. P. Carey MBA students are strongly encouraged to participate in an internship.

The primary focus of the Financial Management and Markets specialization is on careers in corporate finance. However, the curriculum is structured so that those students with an interest in investments can also pursue positions in investment valuation and management.

The second-year W. P. Carey MBA specialization in Financial Management and Markets is an integrated program of study that deals with various advanced topics in risk management of the corporation:

  • Quality of earnings analysis
  • Valuation concepts
  • Hedging strategies
  • Value at-risk techniques
  • Portfolio management approaches

A set of themes that integrates the entire curriculum is presented in each course, including:

  • Financial management of risk
  • Globalization
  • Information technology
  • Teamwork
  • Communication

The cornerstone of any good academic program is its faculty, and in that regard the W. P. Carey Department of Finance can offer nationally recognized faculty who are active in a variety of areas and specialties.

Curriculum

The Financial Management and Markets Specialization consists of 18 required credit hours of finance classes with 12 hours of elective courses selected from a list of W. P. Carey MBA courses—either within your chose specialization or from outside of your specialization.
