W. P. Carey School of Business in China
Program Vision
Build Global Impact and Leadership through Education and Knowledge!
Global markets are expanding rapidly, opening new doors for multinational firms while making them more susceptible to competition in their own backyard. Fast-paced technological advances are making established product and services obsolete, changing the way business is conducted. The current rate of economic growth in China has outpaced existing models of economic thought and has created immense needs for education and knowledge. The W. P. Carey School of Business is committed to providing advanced managerial education that will prepare students for leadership in this dynamic global business environment. Such a commitment is fully reflected in the strategic vision of the School. The need to excel in globalization is a critical University Design Imperative for building Arizona State University as the New American University.
Program Overview
China is a dynamic and evolving global economic and political power that must be part of the plan for any business school with global aspirations. The W. P. Carey School of Business has a set of relationships that have evolved over the last decade that have already yielded significant results for the school, ASU and our partners in both U.S. and China.
In November of 1998, the W. P. Carey School of Business collaborated with Motorola to establish a customized MBA program in Beijing China with a curriculum focusing on high-tech management. As such, the program plays a pivotal role for Motorola to excel in management localization, market penetration and talent retention for its China operations. Today, the program has graduated over 130 alumni who are among the global leaders of Motorola.
In 2003, the W. P. Carey School of Business launched an Executive MBA program in Shanghai China. The program is delivered in collaboration with Shanghai National Accounting Institute (SNAI), an entity founded by China’s formal Premier Mr. Zhu Rongji and is under the governance of China’s Ministry of Finance. The Shanghai EMBA program now offers two specializations: financial management and service management. Both specializations have attracted the participation of the senior management of China’s largest firms and of the government officials in charge of policymaking and regulation. Most students and alumni (N=402) are of the rank of Chairman, CEO, President and Vice President of China’s largest firms located in Shanghai – the financial capital of China.
In addition to the preceding degree programs, the W. P. Carey School also offers Executive Education Programs to Chinese firms and multinationals with operations in China. Our Annual Executive Forum in Shanghai has also attracted the participation of global business leaders, high ranking government officials, and elite academics to share their exciting thoughts on the emerging global issues facing China today. Speakers of the past forums include: Dr. Robert Mondell, Dr. Edward Prescott, Dr. Lawrence Klein, Mr. Han Zheng, Mr. Li Yong, Mr. Lou Jiwei, Mr. Hu Yanzhao , Mr. Howard Schultz, Mr. Roger Dow… etc. Through the Annual Executive Forum, we also are able to offer an exclusive platform of exchange between leaders to cultivate and expand business opportunity, build global connectivity and explore common ventures of interest.
