How to Apply
Applications for Fall 2012 are now being accepted online. Applicants will continue to be accepted until the fall semester class is full. MRED accepts 48 students per year. Once the class is full all outstanding applicants will be notified and considered on a space-available basis.
Step 1 - Online Application
Application to the Master of Real Estate (MRED) program is managed through the ASU Division of Graduate Studies’ web-based application. Please note the current application fee is $70. To be eligible for admission to graduate studies, you must be able to verify:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. A bachelor's degree in the U.S. is a four-year degree that follows 12 years of primary and secondary schoolwork.
- Equivalent to a "B" average (in the last 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework). If you do not meet the minimum GPA requirements, your application may still be considered if your application is competitive with other applicants.
Before you begin, please collect the following information to help complete the online application.
- A current electronic resume, detailing your educational qualifications and professional experience
- The beginning/ending dates and location(s) of your academic degree(s)
- Relevant personal information (recent honors, awards or certificates, and a record of extracurricular and/or current community/civic involvement)
- Copies of transcripts for grade point average (GPA) calculation purposes
- Names, email addresses and contact information for three references
- GMAT, GRE or LSAT test score
- Personal statement
Short Answer & Essays
In addition to the personal statement, you must complete the following:
Short Answer questions: (answer in the text box provided, with a maximum of 225 characters)
1. What will an MRED degree mean to you and your professional goals?
2. Describe your most significant accomplishment to date.
Essay Questions: (500-750 words each, attached in a separate document)
1. With all of the critical issues in the world to resolve, how do you feel a developer can contribute to finding and implementing solutions? 2. Please address any weaknesses in your application or provide additional information you would like to bring to the attention of the admissions committee. If you have a future GMAT or other entrance exam test date, please include that date in this essay.
Letters of Recommendation
The MRED program requires three recommendations as part of the application process. Online recommendations are accepted through the Graduate College. In the online application, please provide the name, company and e-mail address of the three representatives who will be providing your recommendations. This contact information will be used to receive an e-mail from the Graduate College requesting that they submit an electronic recommendation on your behalf. They will be asked to answer a few short-answer and ranked questions.
We suggest obtaining professional recommendations from direct/indirect supervisors, instructors and others in positions to evaluate your performance. They should know you personally and be familiar with your career, credentials, leadership strengths and professional aspirations, as well as your strongest personal qualities, current career focus and potential for success in a graduate program.
Step 2 - Supplemental Application Materials
Once collected, all application materials should be forwarded -- unopened in their original envelopes – in a single mailing packet to the Graduate College.
It is critical that you write your Document Reference Number on all materials prior to mailing. This number can be obtained from the Graduate College Application Checklist, which is the last page of the online application. If you have already submitted documents prior to receiving your Document Reference Number, materials may be matched manually.
The following items must be submitted directly to the Graduate College as part of your application:
- Official copy of all transcripts, in the original, sealed envelope
Please note: If you have an undergraduate degree from ASU, you do not need to submit transcripts as they will automatically be added to your application. However, please make sure to submit all transcripts from other universities attended.
- Official TOEFL Score (international applicants only)
- Financial Guarantee Form (international applicants only)

Step 3 - Standardized Test Scores
GMAT, LSAT or GRE - Include a copy of either test score in your supplemental application materials mailing. For GRE, ASU code is 4007. A department code is not specified. If you choose to retake the GMAT, the MRED program will only consider the highest score and does not average scores.
Exceptions to the GMAT/GRE/LSAT test requirement:
- A candidate with a degree from an accredited college/university and have five or more years of industry related experiences, or
- A candidate with a master's degree in one of the core discipline areas (design, construction, business, law) from an accredited college/university , or
- A candidate with scores from previously taken GMAT, GRE or LSAT tests
If you meet one of the above exceptions, you should submit a petition to the Admissions Committee review, stating in 100 words or less your request for a test waiver. Be sure to include your petition with your other admissions materials.
