Forum Series Objectives
Organized as a set of three interlinked conferences, the Kearny Alliance – ASU Forums on Trade, China, and the World Economic Order seek to identify policy recommendations to improve and sustain U.S.-China trade relationships.
Why now?
- China is celebrating 30 years of its open door policy and eight years since WTO accession.
- The United States is ushering in the Obama administration.
- Both China and the U.S. are focused on stabilizing the global economy and emerging from the current crisis with a stronger, more sustainable economic system than in the past.
For what purpose?
These forums bring together policy makers, business leaders, economist, trade lawyers, and other public intellectuals to explore the trajectories and impacts of trade, considering social, environmental, and political forces that have affected past and present patterns, with particular attention to the interdependencies and benefits of trade, its role as a facilitator of international understanding and, ultimately, world peace.
Phoenix, Beijing, and Washington forum discussions will be captured and recorded as a set of recommended actions to help shape future trade policy.
