How to Apply
Applications will be accepted online starting on October 15, 2009. Please check the deadlines page for all official application deadlines, including our early admission deadline and international application deadline.
Applications for Summer 2010 will start being reviewed after January 15, 2010. After that date, decisions will be made 4 to 6 weeks after we receive a complete application. Applications will continue to be accepted and considered after published deadlines on a limited, space available basis.
Step 1 - Online Application:
Online Application
Complete the online application through the Graduate College at www.asu.edu/gradapp. Please apply for Summer 2010. The degree program is Information Management (MS) (BAINFOMS).
Application Fee
U.S. Citizen: $70
Non-U.S. Citizen: $90
The online application is multi-part and collects basic demographic information as well as supplemental pieces of your application. You will be asked to upload a current copy of your resume, answers to three essay questions and contact information for your recommenders.
Resume
Your resume should include your educational qualifications and professional experience in detail. In addition, the department requests summary tables of your educational and employment background to be included at the end of your resume. Please click here for an example of the summary tables.
Essays
You should prepare in advance responses to the following three essay questions that will be uploaded into the online application. Be sure to carefully proofread your essays prior to submitting. Please note that special fonts and/or formats (i.e. italics, bold, etc.) may be lost during submission. The recommended length for each answer is 300-500 words.
Question 1
Describe your background in business and information systems achieved through either academic or professional experiences.
Question 2
How will the MSIM program help you achieve both your personal and professional goals?
Question 3
Address strengths and weaknesses of your application in light of the program's admission requirements. If you have not satisfied the prerequisites through coursework, please indicate how your experience satisfies those requirements. Please include any additional information you would like the admissions committee to know about your candidacy for admission.
Recommendations
The MSIM program requires two recommendations as part of the application process. The department is accepting online recommendations through the Graduate College. In the online application, please provide the name, company, and e-mail address of your two recommenders. Your recommenders will receive an e-mail from the Graduate College to submit an electronic recommendation on your behalf. They will be asked to answer a few short-answer and ranked questions.
We suggest obtaining professional recommendations from direct/indirect supervisors, instructors, and others in positions to evaluate your performance. They should know you personally and be familiar with your career, credentials, leadership strengths and professional aspirations. These individuals should also know your personal qualities, current career focus and potential for success in a graduate program.
Step 2 - Supplemental Application Materials:
The Department of Information Systems employs a candidate-managed application submission procedure whereby the applicant is asked to gather all Supplemental Application materials (i.e. those items not collected electronically through the online application).
Once collected, these materials should then be forwarded - unopened and in their original envelopes - in a single mailing packet to the Graduate College.
It is critical that you write your Document Reference Number on all materials prior to mailing. This number can be obtained from the Graduate College Application Checklist which is the last page of the online application. (If you have already submitted documents prior to receiving your Document Reference Number, materials may be matched manually.)
The following items must be submitted directly to the Graduate College as part of your application:
- Official copy of all transcripts, in the original, sealed envelope;
- Please note: If you have an undergraduate degree from ASU, you do not need to submit transcripts as they will automatically populate into your application. However, please make sure to submit all transcripts from other universities attended.
- Official TOEFL Score (international applicants only)
- Financial Guarantee Form (international applicants only)
