Welcome to the Department of Information Systems!
Here you will discover a great deal of information about our portfolio of programs, the student experiences we promote – and if you check News and Events, we’ll give you a snapshot of what we’re up to right now. But first – let me tell you a bit regarding what we’re all about.
In today’s tough economy, there’s a new, no nonsense reality - the emphasis is on value. When firms invest in information technologies, they expect value to be realized through increased business, better customer relationships and improved employee productivity. When you invest in your education, you expect the time and effort you spend will return long-term career value. When universities invest in developing a well-regarded faculty, the expectation is that they will generate new business knowledge - and they will transfer that new knowledge to students, research investment partners and colleagues. Within this complex system of value creation, the Department of Information Systems has carved a unique niche.
The main indicators of career value in undergraduate education include careful selection of only the most qualified students, a solid track record of industry recruiting at competitive salaries, industry engagement in supporting student experiences, and a high quality faculty with the teaching awards and research honors to prove it. All four indicators are present in the highly ranked CIS Undergraduate Program. Through the Department of Information Systems Club (DISC), students meet directly with many of the Program’s recruiters and the industry movers and shakers who serve on our Professional Advisory Board.
Our Master of Science in Information Management Program (MSIM) is for working professionals seeking to master the art of managing in an IT-enabled environment. The Program’s time-to-value is a major differentiator; it is a twelve month, intensive program delivered in the evenings. Each course instructor specializes in the field they are teaching, so the newest managerial and technology insights are the focus. The capstone Applied Project is delivered in conjunction with a highly acclaimed regional Executive Lecture series.
The Department’s Ph.D. Program is research-intensive; it builds teaching skills, and it leverages research collaborations with industry partners. Since today’s value of research is measured by impact, both the academic significance of a dissertation and the business relevance of findings are keys. The Department maintains a low student-to-faculty ratio, and it leverages its nationally recognized Center for Advancing Business through Information Technology (CABIT) to forge research collaborations leading to high impact insights. Those insights become foundations for continuously improving the Department’s portfolio of programs.
The Department would very much like to connect and reconnect with all who have an interest in being partners with us in our unique value creation system! For additional information or questions, please contact us at wpcareyis@asu.edu.
