"In establishing the A. J. Epstein Accounting Scholarship, we wanted to honor Phyllis' father who was a CPA and to provide financial assistance to worthy students with an accounting major. Upon receiving the resumes of the Department's recipients, we have been very impressed with the quality of their selections. In addition, the students' letters of appreciation for our gift have been extremely rewarding to us. We feel we are truly making a difference in their lives, which has been our intention."

"I once heard fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg give a speech about 'Reciprocal Altruism' and I as I sat and contemplated what she had just said, I realized I had a multitude of examples from my very own life of 'Reciprocal Altruism'.

My parents were incredible people who were always giving. Their lives were about putting others first and the fruits of their actions would later be made very evident to me. During my senior year of college my family was involved in a car accident that took the lives of both of my parents. People in the community were shocked and saddened by their sudden death and over 250 people showed up at their funeral. But more than just showing support at a memorial service, people did whatever it took to make sure my sister and I were taken care of and okay. For example, Arizona State University made sure our tuition was paid for so that we could finish our college education without any financial worries.

My parents had taught me that demonstrating kindness and love towards other people were the greatest way you could live your life, and after their accident people were demonstrating that same love and kindness back to my sister and I.

When I graduated college, I decided I wanted to give back in the same manner people had so kindly given to me. My father brought me up to regard knowledge, learning, and a college education as fundamental aspects to life. And I felt a scholarship in my parent's memory would be the perfect way to thank all those who had been so generous to me.

The Paisan and Joyce Boonlorn scholarship is in memory of two dynamic people, who are severely missed, but never forgotten, they gave, others gave back, and now it is my turn to give so that other students can pursue their educational dreams without the strain of financial worries."

"It has been my great honor and privilege to witness the rising stature of the W. P. Carey School, both graduate and undergraduate. This success is attributed to outstanding students, combined with a world-class faculty and Dean, in the dynamic city of Phoenix. My intention is for this program to realize benefits for the region, the country and the globe well into the future."

"The influence of working with a very strong, academically based financial, banking and investment firm, Smith Breeden, with the likes of great finance academics such as Dr. Douglas Breeden, dean of the Fuqua Business School at Duke, Stanley Kon of the University of Michigan, and Dr. John McConnell from the Krannert School of Business at Purdue impressed upon me the power of excellent academics. When I had progressed in my consulting and banking career, I met Dr.Jeff Coles, chair of the W. P. Carey Finance department, a few years ago, and his dedication and talent further motivated me to contribute to my alma mater to assist it in reaching academic excellence. By providing financial assistance to an outstanding scholar in finance and funding for a professorship of finance, I am directly impacting the quality and expertise of both students and faculty who are vital to my industry."

"Through APS' partnership with ASU, we've been able to achieve great things that impact the growth and stability of Arizona in a positive way. Programs like the STAR solar research center and the development of the ASU Downtown Campus have brought so many great returns that it seems only natural for APS to support the W.P. Carey School of Business. Through the W.P. Carey School, APS continues to benefit from a well educated work force. Our investment continues to provide scholarships for well deserving recipients, who we hope will one day consider APS as a career."

"I am an ASU alumnus (1974). I began making donations to the School of Accountancy when I was employed at Deloitte & Touche and continued to make donations when I became a partner at that firm. For several years I headed a drive for Deloitte personnel (primarily ASU alums and Deloitte partners) to give to the School of Accountancy. At the time I had a vague understanding of the need for funds to attract and retain top faculty, for scholarships, for travel to meetings, etc.

Upon my retirement from Deloitte (5 years ago) I joined the faculty in the School of Accountancy. As a faculty member, my understanding of the financial needs has become clearer. I am used to, and like, being associated with world class institutions (Deloitte). It is my desire that the W.P. Carey School of Business and the School of Accountancy also be world class. In order to achieve world class status an institution must be financially successful. It is clear that alumni and community giving is an important piece of the financial support that is necessary to make the W.P. Carey School and the School of Accountancy financially successful, thus providing the opportunity to attain world class status. I continue to see the School making positive strides and like to think that my financial support is part of what makes those strides possible. The positive feeling that I get from providing financial support to the School probably exceeds the financial benefit to the School of that support."

"When we formed our company in 1985, we felt very strongly about giving back to the community. We both received our accounting degrees from ASU and wanted to give back to the institution that had prepared us for our success (even before we were successful). We funded a scholarship for accounting students at ASU after only being in business for a few years. We feel so strongly about the importance of an excellent education that our company, Hunter Hagan & Company, Ltd. reimburses any of our employees who successfully pursue their Masters Degree."

"I established the scholarship to honor my parents, who are deceased, because of their tremendous commitment to education for their children. Neither of my parents attended college but from my earliest recollection they stressed the importance of doing so to my sister and to me. It was simply understood that we would go to college. It was a financial struggle, but we both finished college and we both achieved advanced degrees. In setting up the scholarship I wanted to help those who were first generation college attendees as well. It has been very gratifying to know that the funds that I and my sister have provided and continue to provide to build the endowment and fund the scholarship annually have according to recipients made a contribution to their successful completion of their college education. I can't think of a more positive way for me to give back for my parents' dedication which made so much difference for my life."

"I was fortunate to receive a couple of scholarships to attend ASU. Those scholarships made a big difference in my ability to afford to finish my undergraduate degree. In addition, every year I got to meet with a member of the family that created one of my scholarships. Those meetings were special to me, and inspired me to want to give back to the University and create for others the same opportunity I had. Milissa and I believe very strongly in the importance of education and the importance of helping others. We are very active volunteers with the ASU Alumni association and outside of ASU, and hope to pass this legacy on to our children.

When we discovered the opportunity to endow a scholarship with our existing life insurance policies, we were elated that we would be able to give the gift of education in perpetuity without a large up-front expense. The generosity of the Carey and Fulton families motivated us to start something now, so we also are funding scholarships on an annual basis. We are very excited to see the first applications come rolling in this year and to get to meet the students who receive the scholarships. We hope others will join us in this very rewarding endeavor."

"At the time we gifted the Business chair, Lattie Coor was stressing the importance of growing the number chairs at ASU: how it would attract the higher quality professors and attract the better students because of a highly talented staff. I agreed with what Lattie was stressing. Of all the chairs one can support, I thought that a business chair would be the best fit from my standpoint. My hope was that the young students in business, could understand the importance of being competitive and if you do not have that "fire in the belly", you may not succeed, but more importantly, you will not have fun in life. And if you run a good business, completive in all areas (finance, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, human resources, etc.) you will succeed and that success will provide employment to many people and contribute to the community."

"Education is critical to maintaining competition in the international marketplace. This program will help us compete and will assist in attracting the best students to the W. P.Carey School, thus providing great local economy benefit. It is our wish that this financial assistance will make a difference in the ability of talented students to finish their business education at a quality university and have a positive impact. This is a gift to us, as well as to them."

"Joni and I come from families that emphasize the importance of giving to others. We each have vivid memories of conversations with our parents at an early age about their own giving to their universities for scholarship funds or alumni associations. We had an excellent experience at ASU and know we owe a great deal of our present success to the education and life experience that we gained there. We hope that our gifts will make that same experience possible for others. Our annual gifts are a small way of expressing our pride in ASU and providing a return on the investment they made in us so many years ago. It also reminds us of those early conversations with our parents and makes us proud to continue a family tradition of supporting education."

"My motivation was/is that graduating students perpetuate the program. I wanted to be a part of that to ensure our class' stamp is on the program's future. The WP Carey Executive MBA program was the motivating instrument for me taking the next step in my education. With the enjoyment of meeting and working with the people involved in that specific program, especially Dr. Dan Brooks and Esther Korner, and with the support they gave me, I felt a donation to the program was the least I could give back. As my career allows, I want my personal time to be a contribution as well. Knowing that my small gift helps the Executive program continue and change is a great reward. Also, my daughter is now in the 2007 Executive class and is actually realizing the impact our class and previous classes have had on the program's growth."

"I am so thrilled to contribute to the school that shaped me into who I am today. The W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University provided me with numerous opportunities to improve myself. The least I can do to show my appreciation is to act as a donor. I believe in the idea of 'Giving While Living.' As I develop this mentality throughout life, my idea is to instill the gift of giving in others' lives. I know my contribution will directly improve the school. I will continue to give to my alum because this will improve the greater good of society. When the school progresses in quality, the surrounding community continues to develop. I like being a donor because it sets a standard on what being a gentleman is all about. I appreciate the opportunity to give back to the W. P. Carey School of Business because they helped me get to where I am today."

"I was able to take advantage of opportunities to leverage my W. P. Carey education into a great deal of success, prior to even graduating with my B.S. in Management in Fall 2006. I believe strongly in President Crow's vision for Arizona State University, and could see the quality of education increasing dramatically during my undergraduate years at the University.

Attending W.P. Carey and studying under some of Arizona's business and academic elite taught me to take advantage of opportunities whenever they present themselves. In taking this bit of wisdom to heart, I was able to apply what I had learned to real world situations and begin to collect the dividends immediately.

Every American benefits from the ever greater strength of our local and national economies, and I could see no better way to invest in Arizona's, America's, and my own future than by investing in W.P. Carey, and its students and faculty."

"Our fathers and their brothers set up this foundation in honor of their parents, my grandparents, Sam & Ida Turken. They were immigrants and only one of the four brothers had the opportunity to attend college.

The instructions that the four brothers gave us for the scholarship awards and the Outstanding Graduate Senior awards was that the recipient must have leadership potential. We are always in awe of the accomplishments that these inspiring young adults have accomplished in their relatively short lives.

Meeting these kids, as we do every year, renews our faith in the future leadership of America."

Our association allows us to identify and interact with future business leaders firsthand. State Farm brings business expertise to share with students and faculty alike, while the School of Business gives State Farm an opportunity to benefit from the academic experience.

This partnership is a shining example of business and academic convergence."

"Mary and I have always viewed our ASU degrees as on of our most successful investments. We are pleased to be able to assist the School of Accountancy faculty and staff in their efforts to continually improve a world-class program. We know our gift plays an important role in assisting the faculty and staff in this endeavor, and in assisting others reach the same opportunities which have been provided to us through our ASU education."

"The Risk Management Association is a national organization whose purpose is to foster and promote a sound economy through continuous improvement in principles and practices of commercial lending and credit, market, and operational risk management.

The organization, to prosper, must seek tomorrow's leaders. To that end, the Arizona chapter board believes strongly that partnering with the ASU W.P. Carey School of Business helps to advance that goal. We are extremely excited to play a role, however small, in financing the education of tomorrow's leaders in the finance industry."
