Physician Preference Item Management-2008

  • Employment of PPIM team members who can utilize strong relationship building skills obtained from prior employment as supplier representatives to better engage physicians in the PPIM process.
  • Utilization of suppliers in the hospital to promote on contract product usage by physicians.
  • Internalization of supply chain management, group purchasing, and performance consulting functions by the hospital system.
  • Employment of strategic sourcing managers and specialists with advanced business backgrounds within the hospital supply chain management team.
  • Development of internal information by the hospital supply chain management team on products and supplier companies which "counter-details" supplier provided information.
  • Development of "crosswalks" by strategic sourcing managers whereby analyst data is used to develop constructs for internal use that compare different supplier prices for clinically similar items.
  • Use of scenario-based sourcing whereby suppliers are provided with scenarios for contracting which allows them to weigh the benefits of standardization based vs. choice based sourcing strategies.
