Real Estate Development Fundamentals

Mark Stapp, Program Director

Mark StappW.P. Carey School of Business is proud to acknowledge Mark Stapp as an online Real Estate Development Certificate faculty member. Mr. Stapp is the executive director of the Master of Real Estate Development Program and the Fred E. Taylor Professor of Real Estate in the W.P. Carey School of Business, and a faculty associate in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at ASU. Mr. Stapp is a Distinguished Fellow of NAIOP and an active member of the Phoenix development community, Mr. Stapp has been part of various business enterprises and development projects for over past 30 years. Mr. Stapp is also formally the managing member of Pyramid Community Developers, LLC, an investment and development firm of projects throughout the U.S. He has served as president of U.S. operations of Swiss investment company Naef International Management, and as chairman of the board of Taliesin Architects, Inc. His vast experience also includes tenures as vice president of planning and development services for Lendrum Design Group, as managing director of Mountain West Research, and as senior vice president of The Ellman Companies. Mr. Stapp completed his undergraduate work in environmental studies and urban design at William Paterson University, earned a graduate degree in urban economics at Arizona State University and was a member of the 2000 Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive and Professional Education program. In 2007 Mr. Stapp received a Doctor of Humane Letters from A.T. Still University for his work in community sustainability, health and wellness.

Michael Bronska

Michael BronskaMichael Bronska studied architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, earning both his bachelor's degree and master's degree in architecture, with an emphasis in urban design. He complemented his architectural background with an MBA from Arizona State University in 1996. A licensed Architect, Mr. Bronska has been involved with the design, analysis and development of real estate projects for over 30 years. As president of two real estate investment companies and a real estate consulting company, Mr. Bronska currently provides advisory services to pension funds, investors, institutions, facility managers and real estate investment trusts. He has extensive experience analyzing proposed and existing projects. He possesses experience creating financial analysis of complex real estate development projects and management of the budget creation and management process from project inception to close-out.

Real Estate Entitlements and Law

Darin Sender

Darin SenderDarin Sender is a zoning attorney and president of Sender Associates, a chartered, Arizona woman-owned law firm. Ms. Sender received a bachelor's degree in design of architecture from Arizona State University and her juris doctorate degree from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. For over 20 years, Ms. Sender has been helping developers obtain zoning entitlements, including entitlements for multi-family and single family residential, commercial, mixed-use infill and industrial projects. Her entitlement approval experience includes appearances in front of municipal and county appointed and elected boards, commissions and councils including various city councils, boards of supervisors, planning commissions, boards of adjustment and appellate hearing bodies. In addition to those oral argument and presentation capabilities, Ms. Sender also has extensive experience in the often-necessary lobbying of elected and appointed officials on behalf of her clients, as well as the public participation process. As a lawyer-member of the mayor's citizen committee Ms. Sender was appointed to the Tempe Board of Adjustment and was closely involved with rewriting the City of Tempe Zoning and Development Code. Currently, Ms. Sender sits as an appointed member of the City of Phoenix Ahwatukee Village Planning Committee.

Real Estate Land Development

David Bell

David BellDavid Bell is a real estate professional with a broad set of skills used for strategic management and decision-making. He has expertise in real estate finance and capital markets, budget management, strategic financial planning utilizing debt and equity and cash flow analysis. With deep knowledge of legal and regulatory issues, negotiation techniques, construction and project management, and financial and investment analysis, Mr. Bell possesses a thorough understanding of market, site and user analysis; project valuation techniques; public entitlements and environmental issues. Mr. Bell has more than 15 years experience in various aspects of the real estate industry. He earned bachelor's degrees from Arizona State University, the first in Finance from the W. P. Carey School of Business, a second in Real Estate from the Morrison School of Management and a third in Design – Housing and Community Development from the College of Design. Additionally, he has also earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in Supply Chain Management and Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) degrees, both from the W. P. Carey School of Business. Currently, Mr. Bell is a Market and Financial Analyst for a locally based real estate investment trust, Beazer Pre-Owned Rental Homes (BPRH), and he also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the W. P. Carey School of Business.
