Department of Finance - MBA/Finance
The W. P. Carey MBA Program offers you various ways to combine your core MBA curriculum with courses in finance. They include:
- Full-time MBA with a financial management and markets specialization
- Evening MBA with an area of emphasis in finance
- Online MBA with an area of emphasis in finance
The MBA Student Investment Management Fund provides MBA/Finance students the opportunity to manage real money in a real-world investment portfolio under the direction of our faculty and industry leaders. Students who are motivated will glean real-world experience while still in school, better preparing them to compete in the professional field.
As an MBA student you also have the opportunity to enrich your academic experience through participation in a number of clubs and organizations dedicated to professional development and social activities, including the MBA Finance Association which provides MBA students with educational information and networking opportunities with local and national professionals in the finance community.
MBA/Financial Management and Markets
The Full-time MBA with a financial management and markets specialization is an integrated program that explores advanced topics in corporate risk management. It focuses on using value creation in making financial, strategic and operating decisions. You develop skills in the financial management of risk, globalization, critical thinking, teamwork and communication. You also learn about financial statement analysis, budgeting, cost of capital, hedging strategies, interest rates, real options and valuation concepts.
MBA/Supply Chain Financial Management
The supply chain financial management specialization for the Full-time MBA is an integrated program that deals with advanced topics in corporate risk management and deriving efficiencies and effectiveness in a firm’s value chain. Its focus is on team leadership, globalization of the supply chain, financial management of risk and effective communication. You develop skills in quality of earnings analysis, valuation concepts, portfolio management, supply chain network analysis and hedging strategies.
MBA/Finance Area of Emphasis
The area of emphasis in finance offers courses designed for MBA Evening and MBA Online students seeking careers in the financial services industry or corporate finance. Completion of managerial finance, a core curriculum course, is required as a prerequisite. The area of emphasis for MBA Evening students includes a required course in investment fundamentals and portfolio management and two electives selected from mergers and acquisitions, international finance, or taxes and business strategy. The MBA Online area of emphasis requires completion of the core course in managerial finance before taking the following four courses: financial statement analysis, advanced corporate finance, investments, and international finance.
