| Basic Program The courses in the Basic Program are intended to provide the foundation for advanced study in the Finance concentration and supporting coursework. The W.P. Carey School of Business requires a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit in the Basic Program distributed as follows. - minimum of 3 semester hours of Economics (e.g., ECN 512, Microeconomic Analysis I)
- minimum of 3 semester hours in Behavioral Sciences (e.g., ECN 516, Economics of Uncertainty, Information, and Strategic Behavior)
- minimum of 6 semester hours of Quantitative Method (e.g., ECN 725, Econometrics I, and ECN 726, Econometrics II)
In addition to the requirements of the W. P. Carey School of Business, the Department of Finance requires all entering students to take FIN 700, Research Methods, in the last Summer Session prior to the student’s first Fall semester in the program. Advanced Program The advanced program consists of at least 24 semester hours of coursework, 15 of which must be from the Department of Finance. Independent Research (FIN 792) or Readings & Conference (FIN 790) semester hours may NOT be used to fulfill this requirement. The W. P. Carey School of Business requires a distribution of semester hours in the Advanced Program as follows. - minimum of 9 semester hours of Doctoral Research (e.g., FIN 791)
- minimum of 6 semester hours of coursework in “Other Courses” (e.g., FIN 793, which is typically taken for 6 semester hours of credit)
- minimum of 9 semester hours of Related Course Work (e.g., FIN 700, FIN 781, ACC 791)
Additional Courses to Fulfill Ph.D. Requirements The W. P. Carey School of Business requires a minimum of 24 semester hours of additional graduate course credit. These remaining requirements may be met by taking elective courses. Students with previous related graduate coursework may potentially transfer up to 30 semester hours of credit to satisfy this requirement. Dissertation The W. P. Carey School of Business requires a minimum of 24 semester hours of Dissertation credit (FIN 799). |
