Finance Ph.D. Benefits

Incoming students will be awarded positions as Teaching Associates. This is a half-time appointment which comes with a compensatory stipend. Incoming students currently also receive support while enrolled in FIN 700 prior to the Fall of their first year.

In addition to the compensatory stipend, benefits of associateship currently are the following:

• The university currently covers the cost of individual student health insurance purchased through the ASU Student Health and Wellness Center.
• Graduate Associates with half-time (20 hours per week) appointments currently receive a full waiver of resident and nonresident tuition.
• Students must retain their associateships in good standing in order to be eligible for these benefits in successive academic years.

A student’s associateship may entail teaching undergraduate course(s) or assisting faculty with research projects. The associateship will be provided for at least four years as long as the student is making satisfactory progress in the program and is effectively executing the duties of the associateship. Also, summer teaching associateships may be available from June to August. Graduate associates may work either 100 or 200 hours during the summer.
