The Department of Finance and W. P. Carey School of Business has benefited from a generous grant from Jack D. Furst. Mr. Furst is a 1981 graduate of the ASU Department of Finance and currently is Managing Partner of Hicks, Muse, Tate and Furst. The Furst endowment has supported research, curriculum development, student scholarships, and faculty in areas related to private equity and entrepreneurial finance.
The Director of the ASU Program in Private Equity and Entrepreneurial Finance is Professor Sunil Wahal, Jack D. Furst Professor of Finance.

Jack D. Furst (BS Finance, 1981) has been a partner of Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst Incorporated since the firm's founding in 1989. The firm, which primarily manages a diversified portfolio of companies in the manufacturing, media and food sectors, is the nation's leading private equity investment firm specializing in leveraged acquisitions. Furst's 16 years of experience in private equity business includes three years as a vice president and later partner of Hicks & Haas Incorporated and three years as a merger and acquisition/corporate finance specialist for Credit Suisse First Boston, formerly The First Boston Corporation in New York.

Furst's career has coincided with the emergence of private equity finance as an important feature on the finance landscape. His commitment to support research, teaching and scholarship in this area is already making a difference in the classroom at ASU's College of Business. Furst has also been a major supporter of the Boy Scouts of America through his efforts on behalf of Circle Ten Council in Dallas.
