Advising New Freshmen

  1. How do I apply to ASU?

See http://asu.edu/admissions. This site provides information about how to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at ASU, admissions applications procedures and requirements, and financial aid services. Once a prospective student has received an ASURITE ID and password, they may access ASU interactive to receive many additional on-line services. To learn more about getting this ID and password, see http://www.asu.edu/asurite.

  2. What are the requirements for the Bachelor of Bachelor of Science degrees in economics?

This degree program within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is composed of three sets of requirements: (a) university general studies requirements which apply to all degree-seeking undergraduate students at ASU; (b) a six semester hour "science and society" requirement imposed by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and (c) a 45 hour set of requirements established by the economics department.

  3. Do I need to take any placement exams in order to get registered at ASU?

The university will place you in the appropriate freshman English course, based upon your SAT or ACT scores (see   http://www.asu.edu/admissions/orientation/tempeorientation/preorientation.html). A placement exam is required for mathematics.  You may take the Unified Math Placement Exam on-line at Placement at http://math.asu.edu/fym/placement.html.

  4. How do I enroll for classes?
Freshmen students are required to participate in one of the orientation programs provided by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  Enrollment for your first semester at ASU occurs during these orientation sessions.

  5. What do I do if the class I want to take is closed?

Many classes close as a result of pre-registration which occurs during the previous regular semester. Students who do not get all of the classes that they requested, or students who first attempt to enroll during the drop-add period, may attempt to get register for classes they want during the drop-add period. Students should check on-line periodically before classes begin to see if a previously-closed class has opened up as a result of other students deciding to drop the class.
