   Economics Department Alumni Chapter

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The ASU Economics Alumni Chapter seeks to provide a more enduring opportunity for development of human capital for graduates of ASU's Economics program. With an emphasis toward providing a greater return on the ASU Economics degree, the EAA can reduce search costs and information asymmetries by encouraging mutually beneficial exchange among members.

Specific benefits may include:

  • Networking with other economics or business professionals who share a common educational background
  • Providing a resource base for professional and career interests
  • Identifying potential career opportunities
  • Linking to a natural recruiting base for prospective employees
  • Peer consultation on challenging analytical business and
    economics-related
    issues
  • Earnings benchmark information
  • Updates on faculty and peer research
  • Maintaining old friendships or establishing new ones
  • Prospective new business contacts

The EAA believes it can enhance each member's well-being by:

  • Issuing a bi-monthly newsletter containing topical articles, research updates, member news, and job listings
  • Holding quarterly or semi-annual social events, typically surrounding a featured speaker or debate followed by a reception
  • Producing a member directory
  • Maintaining a Web page that keeps the above information current and additionally links to the ASU Department of Economics and other economics-related Web sites
  • Establishing contact with the student Economics group in order to provide potential mentoring and internship opportunities, identifying prospective recruits, and helping to clarify expectations around what skills current students are acquiring in the program today
